On the evening of Dec 2, Zion Crossroads (Co 7 ), along with Louisa (Co 1), Mineral (Co 2), Trevilians ( Co 6)  Locust Creek (Co 5), and Holly Grove (Co 4), responded to an automatic 2nd alarm fire at Louisa County Nursing Home. Initials reports before 1st arriving units was smoke coming from a resident room. Engine 1 arrived and found heavy smoke in Wing number 1, with all 20 residents evacuated prior to arrival thanks to the quick of efforts of the nursing home staff. Truck 1 crew advanced a 1 3/4 inch line into wing number and found a working heater fire in room number 34. Engine 2 crew in the mean time started ventilation process in the structure. Chief 7 arrived on scene was assigned to medical command, along with Engine 7, Engine 6, Medic 1, Medic 2  and the Police Dept. began moving the displaced  residents to wing number 2 where evaluation of the residents began. None of the residents were injured during the incident. One employee was transported to Martha Jefferson Hospital with an asthma attack triggered by the toxic smoke. Once over haul was completed the residents were returned to their rooms, with the exception of the initial fire room. Once again thanks to the quick efforts of the nursing home staff, and the Louisa Town Police Dept. potiential disaster was averted. Units: E1, T1, W1, E2, E6, E7 County F/R 1 (Command) Co F/R 2, Co F/R 4, Chief 7, units placed in service prior to arrival E5, and Tower 4.
