On Wednesday, June 13, 2007, the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Route 15 & Interstate 64 for an accident involving a car and a pickup. Initial reports were that the driver was trapped in the in the car and extrication was required.

Medic units were on the scene within minutes of being dispatched just before noon, to come upon a car that was t-boned on the driver’s side. The driver, who was alert, but injured, required extrication with hydraulic tools. Fire units removed the doors and the middle post to gain access to the patient. The driver was transported to UVA Medical Center with serious injuries.

Fire units cleared the scene about an hour later.

On Thursday, June 7, 2007, the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Routes 15 & 250 for an accident involving a transport ambulance. Initial reports were that a patient was trapped in the back of the ambulance and extrication was required.

Units were on the scene within minutes of being dispatched shortly before 4pm, to discover a tractor trailer carrying an oversized load that struck the rear of the contract ambulance service. No one was trapped in the ambulance, like originally thought. There were luckily no injuries in the accident, either.

Fire units cleared the scene about 45 minutes later.

On Saturday, May 5, 2007, the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched, for the second time in less than 15 hours to the 134 mile marker on Interstate 64 westbound for a two vehicle accident.

Shortly after 3 am, fire and rescue units arrived to find a sports car with heavy damage and pickup truck upside down. Everyone was out of both vehicles and appeared to be okay. Rescue units arrived to assist with patients. Traffic was restricted to a single lane while crews cleaned up. State Police charged the driver of the red sports car with driving under the influence.

Fire units cleared the scene around 5:30 that morning.

On Friday, May 4, 2007, the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, along with Louisa Company 1, was dispatched to the 134 mile marker on Interstate 64 westbound for a two vehicle accident.

Shortly after noon, fire and rescue units arrived to find a car and van had collided and then both spun 180° and were facing oncoming traffic against the guardrails. Everyone was out of both vehicles and appeared to be okay. Lake Monticello Rescue arrived to assist with patient refusals. Traffic was restricted to a single lane while crews cleaned up.

Both the car and the van had extensive damage and were considered total losses.

Fire units cleared the scene around 2:00pm that afternoon.
