On a sunny Friday morning, ZCVFD was dispatched for a
reported truck and camper accident on Interstate 64 westbound at the 134 mile
marker. When units first arrived on scene, they discovered the camper resting
across the left travel lane of the interstate and what appeared to be a truck
in the trees in the median.
Upon closer inspection, the emergency crews discovered the
camper had actually blown a tire which caused the pick-up truck to lose control
and swerve into the median. The driver did an amazing job bringing his truck to
a stop within inches of the trees and had actually no damage to the front of
his truck. Miraculously, no one was injured in this potentially dangerous
accident.

Shortly before 8pm on Thursday, July 6th, one tractor trailer was exiting
Interstate 64 westbound and struck another tractor trailer that was headed
northbound on James Madison
Highway (Route 15). The force of the accident
pushed the second tractor trailer into the median and was close to tipping onto
its side. Both northbound lanes of James
Madison Highway were shut down for approximately 90
minutes until wrecker crews could clear the blocked road. Luckily, no one was
injured.
This intersection is one of the most dangerous intersections at Zion
Crossroads and accidents are frequent as vehicles are coming off the busy I-64.
