Recent Calls for ZCVFD

Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered as a result of these events.

We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.

Every ZCVFD member that responded to these calls sends their thoughts and condolences to those touched by these incidents.

On Saturday afternoon, April 14, 2007, the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, was alerted to respond to I-64 Eastbound near the 141 mile marker for a motor vehicle accident. Initial reports were sketchy and that the car possibly struck a tree. ZCVFD arrived on scene to discover the car had indeed struck a tree at a high rate of speed and the driver was still trapped inside.

House Fire Leaves Family Homeless PDF Print E-mail

On Monday, April 9, 2007, the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, along with Louisa Fire Department was dispatched to the 3000 block of Kent Mill Road for a residential structure fire.

Louisa Company 1 units arrived shortly after 5am on scene first to discover a one-story house was fully engulfed in flames. They quickly struck a second alarm for additional units to respond with manpower and water. ZCVFD arrived with additional crews and began to assist with water shuttles to the scene. It took crews several hours to fully extinguish the fire. It is unclear at this time what caused the fire. No one was injured. The house was completely destroyed and left the family with the loss of all their belongings.

ZCVFD units cleared the scene around 9:30am that morning.

On Wednesday, April 4, 2007, the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, along with East Rivanna Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Louisa Road and Whitlock Road for a vehicle reported to be on fire.

Units were on the scene within minutes of being dispatched shortly before 10am, to discover a car that was unoccupied and fully involved. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, but the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Fire units cleared the scene around 11:30am that morning after the car was removed from the road.

Log Cabin at Popular Resort Burns Down PDF Print E-mail

Shortly after 1pm on Friday, February 16th, Zion Crossroads Fire Department along with several other fire departments, including Gordonsville Fire Department, were dispatched to the popular Shenandoah Crossing for a fire.

Crews arrived to find a log cabin fully engulfed in flames. The fire was under control after about 30 minutes. The cabin was not occupied at the time, and their were no injuries reported. The value of the cabin has not been determined, however the cabin is a total loss.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although it is believed to have started accidentally. Fire crews cleared the scene after 3 hours.

On Saturday, January 20, 2007, The Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, along with Louisa Company 1, Trevilians Company 6, and Mineral Company 2 was dispatched to the 6300 block of Byrd Mill Road for a house reported to be fully engulfed.

Units were on the scene within minutes of being dispatched shortly before 10pm, to discover a two story residential structure that was fully engulfed, with heavy fire and smoke. Neighbors told fire officials that there was a strong possibility of someone still trapped inside.
