Attention
Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered as a result of these events.
We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.
Every ZCVFD member that responded to these calls sends their thoughts and condolences to those touched by these incidents.

Zion Crossroads Fire Department was dispatched to Route 15 in the area of the Burger King for a report of a vehicle that had flipped several times.
At 3:15 pm, crews arrived to find a man that removed himself from an
SUV that had flipped several times. Bystanders helped the man, who had
only minor injuries, until Louisa County Emergency Services transported
him to UVA for evaluation. State Police are still investigating the
accident.

At 6:15 am on Tuesday, February 28, 2006, a call came in for an accident with entrapment at the intersection of Route 15 & I-64.
Upon arrival, fire & rescue crews discovered a man trapped in a car
that was struck from the side by a large tractor trailer. The patient
was quickly extricated by removing the roof of the vehicle and was
transported to UVA Medical Center in serious condition.

At Noon on February 24, 2006, Zion Crossroads Fire Department and Louisa Fire Department (Company 1) was dispatched to a new home construction site for a reported vehicle on fire.
The fire quickly spread to a nearby dumpster and was fully involved
when units arrived on scene. Both the car and the dumpster were
perilously close to the house undergoing construction. Crews raced to
extinguish the fire and contain it before it could spread any further.

Around 2:30 on Christmas Eve, two vehicles collided at the
intersection of Route 15 & Route 250, a very busy intersection. Zion
Crossroads arrived on the scene and blocked the intersection to one lane of
traffic, while the patients were assessed. Luckily, only minor injuries were
reported.
There was a very large amount of fluids leaking from the car,
so a request for additional units from Palmyra Fire Department to assist with
the clean-up and traffic control.

Zion Crossroads was dispatched on Monday, December 19th
around noon for a tractor trailer carrying three large steel rolls that
overturned on Route 15, James
Madison Highway. Initial reports included that the
fuel tanks of the truck were leaking as well. Wagon-7 arrived on scene shortly
thereafter and discovered that there were miraculously no injuries involved with
the overturned vehicle.
Diesel fuel was pouring into ditch line and firefighters
were quickly able to build a dam in ditch line to stop the spreading of dangerous
fuel. It took crews nearly 3 hours to clean the mess up and re-open the busy highway
to normal traffic.
