Summer Family Social

The Zion Crossroads Fire Department prides itself as an extended family, always open, friendly and inviting. The Auxiliary, on behalf of President Cathy Dennsion, decided to host a member summer social event on Sunday, July 30th.

Over 30 of the department members and their families came together for food, fellowship and even some delicious homemade ice cream.

Zion Crossroads Awarded

Image ZCVFD and other area agencies that responded to the MCI in our first due on October 1, 2005 were awarded Outstanding EMS Call for 2005 by the Thomas Jefferson EMS Council on Wednesday, May 10th.

Although we were honored to receive the award for excellence, it is bittersweet in that 3 people lost their lives in the horrific accident.

In all, there were 14 patients and four vehicles involved in the collision on Route 15, James Madison Highway. A total of 3 fire stations and 6 rescue stations responded as well as 3 helicopters.

Along with Zion Crossroads Fire & EMS personnel, the following agencies also responded: Gordonsville Fire Department, Trevilians Fire & Rescue, Louisa Rescue, Mineral Rescue, Holly Grove Rescue and Orange County Rescue along with Pegasus, AirCare and MedFlight helicopters.

Fish Fry Fundraiser a Success!

Most members were cautiously optimistic about doing a Fish Fry fundraiser event, especially in the cool spring months. However the residents of the Zion Crossroads area proved any doubting members in the fire department wrong on Saturday April 29th, when the first Fish Fry event was a “deep fry” success! Almost $900 was raised in the 5 hour event.

ZCVFD Continues Truck Training

ImageThe Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department is continuing to train on our newest apparatus, Truck 7. Purchased earlier this year from Farmville Fire Department, the truck has recently passed manufacturer’s inspection.

Only a few of our members have experience with aerial fire apparatus, so we are doing extensive training in cooperation with generous area firefighters who are donating their time and expertise. The truck still needs all of the equipment to be stocked on it, such as hoses, additional SCBA and saws and we will be stocking it gradually over the next few months. We anticipate having this truck operational by summer.
