Screamin' 5K Race

The Screamin’ 5K was created by group of residents who live in Spring Creek as a family friendly and Halloween costume friendly race. Its purpose is to benefit the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department. Through a combination of race proceeds and donations from individuals and businesses, the Screamin’ 5K hopes to donate as much money as possible to the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department who works diligently on a daily basis to service the rapidly growing community around them. The inaugural Screamin’ 5K race will be held this year on Saturday, October 25th, and take place throughout the Spring Creek Community in Gordonsville, Virginia.

Please consider becoming a participant by registering or becoming a sponsor . The ZCVFD family is grateful for this wonderful community event and we hope to see you at the race!

Chief Ricky Bywaters with Tanker 7

Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department is the proud recipient of a new fire truck. Tanker 7 is a 2008 Pierce Kenworth T-370 Tanker will carry 3,000 gallons of water and will be powered by a 360 horsepower Cummins engine and a 500 gallon per minute Darley pump. It will also be equipped with a 10” electronic dump valve for quick release of water at fire scenes. The new Tanker 7 will also have two 200’ inch-and-three-quarter speed lays and an inch-and-three-quarter front mounted trash line.

"This is a really great looking truck," Bywaters said. "It will also add an additional layer of protection to the residents of our growing community." This is the second new apparatus (Engine 7-1 ) to be acquired by the department in the last 2 months and should be in service by August 12th.

Tanker 7 is a ZCVFD department purchase through Singer Associates Fire Equipment in Manassas, VA.

Whoa. We've Been A Little Busy.
Thursday, 17 July 2008
wow.jpgI did a little number crunching last night to see how we were comparing in running EMS calls over the last few months. Keep in mind that we’re a tiny itty bitty little station with a new EMS program (5 years old). In fact, we only have 4 EMTs that are currently trained to run EMS calls.

So looking at the last two years versus this year, we’re only at about a 288% increase in EMS calls run. Seriously, that’s a huge difference. Last year we had 3 providers running calls, and this year we have one more person. That’s 4 EMTs making difference. And just think, we’re training new members to run calls and our membership drive is up. Imagine if we added just 2 more this year and maybe 3 more EMTs next year. The county call volume has gone up some over last year, but the fact that ZCVFD is now able to help out, we're able to rely less on the other agencies and help balance the call volume.

What do these numbers mean? That this itty bitty station in a vastly growing region can make a difference and help save lives. And that’s really what it boils down to. Why aren’t you helping us out? We need your help. Make a difference with us.
