ZCVFD Opens Doors to Open Door

02_17_2007.jpgRecently, the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department open its doors to the students at Open Door Christian School, located in Troy, Virginia. As a part of our ongoing educational and public awareness program, the members of ZCVFD taught proper response techniques if a fire or medical emergency occurs at home. The students were also shown all the equipment the firefighters and EMS personnel use help in different situations. The students and their teachers had a great time looking at all the different trucks and getting to meet Sparky, the ZCVFD Mascot.

New Members Practice Extrication

Extrication Training ClassOn Saturday, February 2, 2008, the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, held an extrication training class for new members. Thanks to Vayo Automotive, located in Kents Store, VA, the members traveled to the junkyard and practiced several scenarios on two different vehicles. The class lasted for several hours and each team got to handle different type of equipment in obtaining access to potentially trapped people. Pictures of the class are inside.

ZCVFD Orders New Tanker

tanker7.jpgZion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department has just placed an order for a new Pierce Kenworth T-370 Tanker. This apparatus will hold 3,000 gallons of water with a 360 horsepower Cummins engine and a 500 gallon per minute Darley pump. It will also be equipped with a 10” electronic dump valve for quick release of water at fire scenes. The new Tanker 7 will also have two 200’ inch-and-three-quarter speed lays and an inch-and-three-quarter front mounted trash line. The truck is currently in production and expected to be delivered about two months after the new Rescue Engine 7-1 ; with delivery in mid-June 2008. This apparatus is a department purchase costing a little more than $200,000 and will be a welcome addition as first-line fire protection to the residents in ZCVFD’s response area.
 
ZCVFD Company Holiday Party

The Auxiliary hosted a wonderful Holiday Party on Sunday afternoon, December 9th, 2007. Members and thier families attended for some great fellowship and fine Christmas cooking. Photos of the party are after after the "Read More" button.
