New Engine 7-1 Delivered! PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 02 May 2008
new_engine71.jpgThe Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department recently took delivery on a new state-of-the-art fire engine. The 2008 Smeal Sirius Custom Pumper will become the station's primary piece of equipment for motor vehicle accidents and will back-up other apparatus on fire calls.

"This new truck is the result of some very much appreciated Louisa County capital funding, which was spearheaded by Mr. Richard Havasy, the Green Springs Magisterial District Supervisor . Our membership has almost a year of hard work in the design of this apparatus," said Fire Chief Ricky Bywaters. "The western end of the county has seen a lot of new growth and development which was recognized by our Board of Supervisor's who eventually approved the funding. This new engine will be a great addition to our department and provide a huge benefit to our community."

The new engine will carry much more additional life-saving equipment than the current truck allows. In addition to a newer set of extrication equipment, the engine will also carry 20 gallons of foam for hazardous vehicle fires, heavy-Rescue air bags for special rescue situations and will also carry EMS equipment. The engine has seating for 6 firefighters and will carry 750 gallons of water. Several unique features for the new engine include high-visibility graphics on the rear of the truck and a remote-controlled light tower for incidents at night.

"It is an extremely impressive vehicle. A lot of consideration went into the design and layout of the truck," Bywaters stated. "There was a lot of valuable advice and excellent customer service from our dealer, Keplinger Repair Service of Winchester, Virginia. "

Rescue Engine 7-1 should be in service and running calls by the end of May 2008.
