On Tuesday, June 24, 2008 shortly after 9 in the morning, the Zion Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, along Louisa County Emergency Services was dispatched to the intersection of Route 15, James Madison Highway, and Interstate 64 for a tractor-trailer that had overturned.
The truck was carrying round 47,000 pounds of empty glass beer bottles to be recycled, when the driver lost control of the truck while turning onto Route 15 southbound. The truck then overturned and was blocking one lane of Route 15 at the intersection. The driver escaped with only minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by Louisa EMS.
The truck was leaking diesel fuel into the grass and a Hazardous Materials contractor was called in to assist with the clean-up efforts. Route 15 southbound was shut down for approximately an hour while crews up righted the truck.
