I did a little number crunching last night to see how we were comparing in running EMS calls over the last few months. Keep in mind that we’re a tiny itty bitty little station with a new EMS program (5 years old). In fact, we only have 4 EMTs that are currently trained to run EMS calls.
So looking at the last two years versus this year, we’re only at about a 288% increase in EMS calls run. Seriously, that’s a huge difference. Last year we had 3 providers running calls, and this year we have one more person. That’s 4 EMTs making difference. And just think, we’re training new members to run calls and our membership drive is up. Imagine if we added just 2 more this year and maybe 3 more EMTs next year. The county call volume has gone up some over last year, but the fact that ZCVFD is now able to help out, we're able to rely less on the other agencies and help balance the call volume.
What do these numbers mean? That this itty bitty station in a vastly growing region can make a difference and help save lives. And that’s really what it boils down to. Why aren’t you helping us out? We need your help. Make a difference with us.
